Briar Rose Grierson Vivian was born in New Zealand, the daughter of Robyn Grierson and Simon Vivian. She has one brother and one sister. She grew up near Waikino Gorge , Waihi, New Zealand and after her parent divorce lived with her mother at Tauranga NZ
