William Pengilley Richardson


Son of Charles Richardson and Ann Pengilley. .

Born in Stratford, Essex in 1823, the third year of the reign of King George IV, and died aged seventy-one in Vauxhall, London in the fifty-eighth year of the reign of Queen Victoria  He has 51 direct descendants in the family.

Bricks and Cement


William's middle name was his mother's family name. He was born in Stratford, Essex and baptised at Brickfield Congregational Church. His early life is undocumented, in 1851 he was a grocer in Baldock Street, Ware, when his first son Charles was born.
At some time between 1859 and 1863 the family moved from Ware to Brunswick Lodge in Lambeth, in front of Brunswick Wharf which belonged to his brother Charles.
In the 1881 census he was documented as being a Manager of the Cornish Line, which ran from Nine Elms Station - a mere 100 yards away - down to Cornwall.
Ten years later in the 1891 census he was the Manager of Brick & Cement Wharf (ie Brunswick Wharf).
In 2005 Roger Vaughan, an expert on Victorian photographs, dated the photo opposite to circa 1889.

FAMILY
William Pengilley Richardson was born on 12 January 1823 in Wanstead, Essex, his father, Charles Richardson, was 35 and his mother, Ann, was 33. He married Sarah Jeffreys in July 1845 in Buckinghamshire. They had eight children in 19 years. He died on 31 January 1895 in London, London, at the age of 72.
