Kathleen Joyce ( Kay) Clarkson was born on 3 April 1940 in Hawera, Taranaki, her father, Archibald, was 31, and her mother, Patricia, was 26. She married Wallis Bourn on 23 July 1960 in Patea, Taranaki. They had four children during their marriage. She had two brothers and one sister
