Rowland Richardson


Son of Christopher Richardson and Jane Potter. .

Born in 1743, the sixteenth year of the reign of King George II, and died aged sixty-two in the forty-sixth year of the reign of King George III  He has 11 direct descendants in the family.

Streatham


Baptised at St Katherine by The Tower, his father's name written as Xtopher Richardson

By 1785 he was a resident of Streatham Common North
Reputed to be a ship broker affiliated with Lloyd's of London

In 1788 he was first elected as a churchwarden of St Leonard's Streatham
He was a Guardian of The Poor and a regular attendee at Vestry meetings.

In 1790 he married Sarah Prickett. At least five of his children were baptised there and three had burials registered there.


In 1797 he leased Wood Lodge in Tooting Bec Road (photo) from the Duke of Bedford for a rateable value five times his previous property, as well as a large field nearby for his horses.

By 1801 he had his own personal pew at St Leonard's Church

There is a portrait of Rowland Richardson by Nathaniel Dance entitled Rowland Richardson of Streatham - died 1806, which would suggest that he may have died before he received the painting. This painting was auctioned by Anderson & Garland of Newcastle on 16 May 1989 and sold for £2000, it is now in private hands.
