A brief biography

William Richardson


Son of William Richardson and Eleanor Raggett. .

Born in 1785, the twenty-fifth year of the reign of King George III, and died aged seventy-nine in the twenty-seventh year of the reign of Queen Victoria  He has 50 direct descendants in the family.

A career in the Royal Navy


At the age of nine, took part as a young midshipman in the 'Glorious First of June' sea battle in 1794, the first and largest fleet action of the naval conflict between the Kingdom of Great Britain and the First French Republic during the French Revolutionary Wars.

In 1850, aged 65, made a Vice Admiral of the Royal Navy.

Resident of Stockwell Crescent, Clapham Road at time of his death in April 1864. Interred in the Catacombs of West Norwood Cemetery.
