Escott Bonthron was born on 2 April 1894 in Riverton, Southland, his father, Charles, was 39 and his mother, Jessie, was 28. He married Kathleen Florence Ruby Harper in 1923 in New Zealand. He died on 21 October 1925 in Hamilton, Waikato, at the age of 31, and was buried there
