Emma Jane Medlin was born in April 1861 in Falmouth, Cornwall, her father, Richard, was 32, and her mother, Amelia, was 27. She married Walter Henry Brown in April 1880 in her hometown. They had one child during their marriage. She died as a young mother in October 1890 in Falmouth, Cornwall, at the age of 29.
