John Malcolm Harvey


Son of Francis John William Harvey and Ethel Marguerite Edye. .

Born in Plymouth, England in 1905, the fourth year of the reign of King Edward VII, and died aged seventy-three in Bournemouth, Dorset in the twenty-seventh year of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II

In his father's footsteps


Brought up in Devonport and the son of a famous navy father, John Harvey was destined for a military career and became a lieutenant colonel in the King's Regiment. He inherited his father's medal group and presented them to the Royal Marines Museum in 1973.

His wife, Veronica Le Geyt Poingdestre, like John, lost her father aged 10. Her father had been a Lieutenant Colonel in Jersey.

At the time of his death aged 74 he was living in a flat overlooking the sea in Bournemouth and his wife had returned to Jersey.

In his Will John asked to be buried next to his mother in Newtown Churchyard in Newbury.
